PirateBox 1.0.1 Beta-Testing
August 14, 2014 06:41PM
Hello everyone,
I'm very sorry, that that release took so long. Some of you may noticed on Twitter, that while testing I figured other undiscovered things out.

For the Hotfix-release 1.0.1 is now a bugfix freeze. That means only bugs concerning the changes or urgent things will be included. New features are staged for 1.1.0 ( i.e. Time for shoutbox out of client ).

The small howto with the changelog you can find here: [piratebox.aod-rpg.de]
When we release 1.0.1, the changes will be transfered to piratebox.cc (or soon - have to discuss with the team)

The packages and files are available here:
[beta.openwrt.piratebox.de]
This includes the non-openwrt source package piratebox-ws_1.0.1RC1.tar.gz

The Source build together can be found here:
openwrt-source: [github.com] (development branch)
opt/piratebox - source: [github.com] (hotfix-1.0.1 branch)

For the other devices, choose your stuff out of this list according to your device [beta.openwrt.piratebox.de]

The Changelog is:

1.0.1RC1

[Fix] Fixed setting permissions of shoutbox datafile
[New] Service File for RPi image
[Fix] Several typos in scripts
[Fix] Typo in front page and directory listing
[Fix] in timsave.sh while restoring date&time
[Fix] [OpenWRT] Timesave create bootup restore
[Fix] [OpenWRT] Fix for not working “already installed” recognition to skip parts
[Fix] [OpenWRT] Fix for errors during installing piratebox-mod-imageboard because of duplicate links
[Fix] [OpenWRT] Fix for LED flashing during auto install (box-installer on image)
[Fix] [OpenWRT] Fix error messages on package reinstall. (extendRoot)
[Fix] No dublicates symlink after double “part2” via install_piratebox.sh
[New] Remove # in front of secret & password to force user to change it before using the board
[Fix] Button padding in UI
[Fix] Board Link out of nested Shared folder
[Fix] Russian Translation in Droopy
[Fix] ReDistribute DirectoryListing files upon initialization on first Startup
[Fix] [OpenWRT] Fixing customization of lease-file location for OpenWRT
[Fix] [OpenWRT] Fixes issues when extendRoot couldn't get initilized correctly
[New] [OpenWRT] Optimzed handling of mount options in extendRoot

I appreciate any beta-tests and bug reports. I made a short test for myself after building this release.

About what should a beta tester take care?
- How does the installation work?
- General functionality (up and download)
- Speed/Performance issues
- Installation times
- MediaPlayer speed
- UI - Linking now correct?
- on RPi: Dublicate run of /opt/piratebox/bin/install_piratebox.sh shouldn result in strange symlinks anymore
- does the time come back after a reboot
- anything else? Major changes in documentations?

I want to push that stuff to a stable release mid of September to start with 1.1 after that.

best regards
Matthias

Am I correct to interpret that the WRT firmware must be flashed as well as PB software re-installed?
I guess I don't understand all this as well as I thought I should.
I keep re-reading your post and I'm just not sure if I can visualize the proper procedure. I know that you need to pack in lots of info about all the individual hardware platforms. I'm glad I'm only concentrating on one in particular (3020.)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm trying to imagine that I'm performing this upgrade, and confirm each step in my head (ala NicTesla) before actually performing surgery on my PB, but it really doesn't feel like I have a smooth procedure, so I'm hesitant to start out.

Maybe I should get another unit to monkey with. The HowTo only lists the 3020 & 3040. Are they really the only 2 that have confirmed to be working?

I think I have to make clear, that doing beta tests is not for novice users.
It is wished to have testers with some experiences, because they can easily run into trouble..

I've always had the ability to hear what people meant when they said things.
You're very clear that you've decided I'm a novice.

I'll lay off. I won't burden you any further.
I wasn't able to delete my current posts so please disregard them.
I'm sorry to have bothered you.
My mistake.

Terry, I'm sorry -It wasn't my intension to offense you!

The problem about beta software and release candidates is, that I really have to rely on some basic knowledge of the box, that the tester is able to recognizes problems or things that doesn't work like expected. If you never know how it should be , you can't say what is wrong.

Sure, you still can test the release candidate, but I don't have the time to guide across every single step. Yes, you simply have to reflash your device again.

The devices, which are supported are much more then those two. We focus on the howto to those two, on the other devices you have to figure out, which IP Adress the stock admin interface is available. The complete hardware list is here: [piratebox.cc]

Again: I'm sorry, I didn't want to offense you.

best regards Matthias

Hi !

Hardware : Mercury MW151 (703 clone), 16 GB USB Key
Software : removed everything from the key except Shared folder befor the reflash

- How does the installation work?
I sticked to the how to and everything works !

- General functionality (up and download)
forum ok
upload ok
download ok
chat ok
Timestamp ok
everything while streaming via dlna ok

- Speed/Performance issues
It took me nearly 20s to upload 10.5M :/
And near 4 minutes for 115M.
Although, it's not impossible that come from my poor USB Key... R/W : 19MBs/6MBs

- Installation times
From the end of the copy of the install folder to the last blink, 51 minutes

- MediaPlayer speed
No problem with MP3, same with a 1280*720 2MB/s MP4

- UI - Linking now correct?
Always the same problem when connected in Ethernet on a local network with a main dhcp as dnsmasq can't redirect to piratbox.lan. I usually force the IP in index.html to fix that on my Pbox.

- does the time come back after a reboot
It did came back, but with no rtc, it's outdated.

- anything else? Major changes in documentations?
...

I will not alter my Pbox for now so if you want some logs, request.

Hi PirateBoxBrest,
thank you for your detailed feedback!

The installation time is still too much. It should be around 35 Minutes.

Can you post the content of /etc/ext.config please?
Maybe I want you to try an installation with different options smiling smiley

Hi,
tested it on my Box doing a one-step LibraryBox installation and it took only about ~20 Minutes using the same mount options sad smiley

How was your exact installation procedure?
Can you try it with a different usb key?
