Asus WL-330gE - Not able to acquire router AP IP address
July 12, 2015 04:52AM
Hi,

I've been searching the internet for hours and couldn't find a solution, so, figured I should register and ask someone on this forum.

I am trying to standup PirateBox using Asus WL-330gE AP using the original steps posted by David on his original Wiki to Install DD-WRT on Asus WL-330gE AP. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS in VirtualBox on 64 bit Windows platform. Steps were as following:

1. Install TFTP from Ubuntu Terminal - Check
2. Download Asus Utilities Pack - Check
3. Connect Asus WL-330gE to laptop via RJ45 cable and turn off the Ethernet (eth0). - Check
4. Set static IP of 192.168.1.2 in eth0 - Check
5. Hard reset AP while holding the Reset button when reconnecting to the power source - Check
6. ping 192.168.1.220 - Check
7. should get packets with ttl and time stamps - Not happening!!!

eht0 ifconfig shows :

1. IP address as 192.168.1.2
2. Netmask 255.255.255.0
3. BCast: 192.168.1.255

Anyone has any ideas? Any help is appreciated.
