Hi,
you can always refer to OpenWrt - Hardware Recommendations.

The only model on this list which is currently supported is the AR150.

For the next PirateBox version, the range will be larger again.

compatible to OpenWrt yes, but to the latest versions.
PirateBox stable is running with an OpenWrt version from 2012 (AA).

And between AA and the latest release (CC) from 2017 alot of changes were made and we need to adjust several things to get our software working again.

The development version does support that device [development.piratebox.de] , but this version is kind of unstable
