Hey i tried to install the beta python failed although it did almost download so i rebooted things got messed up now i cannot login anymore and in fail safe it says /etc/passwd is protected when i do passwd command help?

What error-messages came up while installing python?

Did you run 
mount_root
?
Only after this command your passwd is writable!

Ok, maybe your old /mnt/ext/PirateBox/OpenWRT.img image file is too small and it wouldend updated to the new one.



Mh, in combination with running forban on the router, upgrade could be really problematic sad smiley

i changed the password still no access Im starting to think the only way this is going to work is by redoing the router...

Use fixed IPs on client to access router after reboot. i.e. 192.168.1.2

If something went wrong with updateing, dhcp does not work...

hey i just figured out whats wrong ... What ip address is your pirate box giving out??? because mines giving out 169.254.228 address to my Ethernet and 169.254.55 address to my wireless??

on default 192.168.1.1

having 169..... only says: "Hey, the dhcp server doesn't give me anything, so I choose one for my own" (APIPA)

so, set your client to 192.168.1.2 and check what's up

password problem should be solved with failsafe, mount_root & passwd
maybe it is a charset problem- choose a easy password winking smiley

i did still no luck i think my passwd file is done wrong i had deleted it because you know i couldn't get in and had to redo it should i post that here?

deleting the passwd file is the badest thing you could do sad smiley

Try to reflash your router...
