Help installing
October 24, 2016 09:18PM
Ok so I have everything I need and started to build my first pirate box. I am a novice to computers, and diy.
I have a raspberry pi 2, MR3040, 128g class 2 usb.

I downloaded and extracted install_piratebox.zip. and moved install file to flashdrive

I am not sure what version of OpenWrt to download, I'm not sure what version mine is or how to look it up.

[ ] openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v1-squashfs-factory.bin 05-Oct-2016 20:09 3.8M
[ ] openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v1-squashfs-factory.bin.sha256 05-Oct-2016 20:09 123
[ ] openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory.bin 05-Oct-2016 20:09 3.8M
[ ] openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory.bin.sha256 05-Oct-2016 20:09 123

I downloaded the v2 files
connected mr3040 to computer via ethernet. Now I upgraded firmware to [ ] openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory.bin I was not sure if I need to use that file or [ ] openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory.bin.sha256

no during the last stage I forgot to put USB into router, i put it in 15 minutes after I updated firmware, waited like 50 minutes. I do not know what to do now? I tried to log on to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 and cannot connect to router, I hope I did not brick it.

so I got stuck at the download stage, it timed out as it was supposed to.

I have a question step 5, open a terminal window , what does this mean, where do I open it, on router or PC, or the rasberry pi2 I want to use?

The sha256 is merely the encryption key to proof the other V2 file is not corrupted!

Hi,
yes the sha256 sum is only an encryption proof, exactly what bfpa40 mentioned.

Use the .bin files only for flashing.

When you MR3040 has two switches - one power and one mode, it is a V2 ; if only power => v1.

How did you format your usb stick?
