I dont want links to adult content in PirateBox HTML!
January 17, 2017 06:29AM
I must point out that I am a school teacher using piratebox to show students how to programme and use computers for something more then playing Minecraft.

While picking my way into the HTML files I found a link that is taking me to an "adult content" webpage.

USB DRIVE E:\PirateBox\board\include

HTML TEXT
<p class="footer">
- <a href="[wakaba.c3.cx] <const KAREHA_VERSION></a>
+ <a href="[www.2chan.net] mode</a>[THIS IS THE URL to Adult Content]
-
</p>

Not sure if this was intentional as the webpage may have changed Domain from the original content.

Please this is been used by students and maybe seen by parents and I want to keep my job!

I can fix the issue by changing the name of the hyperlink and file that launches the 2chan.net message services, so it does not match the adult content web page.

Now all I have to do is remove the spam list file so I bunch of teenage boys don't get a list of site to LOOK AT on the internet.

Then I am going to have serious words with our IT technicians as to why a Japanese porn site can get through our internet filter in a school, someone added it to the allow list.

Hi,
I am sorry, that you are effected by that. This is included in the original source code which we ship unmodified.

You can remove the entries in that file. To regenerate the index page (on an empty board), remove the index.html and visit kareha.pl with your browser.

Sorry,
best regards
Matthias

Issue easily fix as mentioned. The situation happened when I removed the USB from the piratebox to edit the HTML using a PC. This allowed the piratebox webpage to access the internet and access the outside world and connect to the adult content! It just came as a bit of a shock and good job I bit not have my video projector switched on for the whole world to see in my classroom.

I still haven't got to the bottom of how the content got passed our school internet filter!!!

I have a Grade7 class learning HTML at the moment the old fashioned why of using notepad as the text editor and everything has to be then loaded into IE to see the results. Once the kids have finished their website I load them into the shared area of the USB drive I am running my Raspberry Pi on and then the kids can view their own webpages on their mobile phones and tablets. No need to upload into a webserver on the internet, easy classroom management.

Keep up the great work on this project as it is inspirational to a whole new generation kids learning that computers are not only for playing video games.

I am trying to do my bit to teach the next generation of coders and keep them away from the evils of Microsoft and Apple!

Hi,
very good @ everything smiling smiley

What do you think of connecting the Pi to your school network and let the students upload their data via FTP?
With adjusting the lighttpd configuration, you can also create custom domains for the different groups. (Must be entered manually).

Hi Matthias,

I wish I had the computer room resources, the time and experience to set up the PR3 as you suggested. We only got a Synology NAS drive to save students files on 6 weeks ago, so students just getting use to Mapping Network Drives is a stretch never mind FTP!

I am seriously looking at building a computer room/lab at school based on using Raspberry Pi3 and PiNet, so a complete break away from Apple/Microsoft. There is only one bit of software that will not run on the Raspberry Pi and that's Universal Logicator 7.

Ok, I understand that you are not allowed to connect the RPi to the school network. If so, you can also run a FTP server on the PirateBox.. of course with some additional steps/configuration tasks smiling smiley
