I have just learn that once a firmware file into 'auto_flash' was flashed, it is renamed to '.1' Before I did let the same file in the folder. I will retry to install PB by removing the olds 'install' folder AND the 'auto_flash' folder.

I tried with a different USB key (Integral 8 GB, USB 2). After FAT32 formatting, installing OpenWRT and PB 1.13 EXT4 v2, this issue is the same (blinking non stop), while the normal behaviour is to stay lighted when inactive.

In this dmesg log, everything seems quite normal.
Looks like I have to run some tests for myself with a corresponding usb stick :-/

ok, so I did find some time to dig out an USB stick with a LED and reinstalled a stock PirateBox on my MR3020. For me, the USB light is steady, only blinking when activity.

So, maybe the different behavior is just a silly kernel or hardware issue in the combination with your 1043. Based from the numbers we took before, there is no r/w traffic ongoing on the USB stick.
