Planning for the inevitable

I have 6 CHIPs that I use on my own projects. I worry about the end of NTC and how to keep my CHIPs in operation. I have had other orphaned hardware and if the software is not open and available it becomes landfill.

Should there a community plan to keep available the download images for the flavors of distribution used in CHIP? Is there a backup for their “hacks” that make the kernel work with the non-upstreamed allwinner stuff? And then we get to the incredibly poor implementation choice of using a chrome addin for flashing the CHIP - how do we back that up and what happens when chrome changes or the add in is no longer available.

Someone has the community website. Should we get prepared for longer term use?

I think that is something you should adress on reddit's CHIP community.
PirateBox itself does not provide any firmware, and we do not have the manpower to do the needed steps.

Sorry...
