Pi(rate) box not letting me Chang the SSID

My pirate box is not letting me change the /opt/PirateBox/conf/hostapd.conf SSID it just flashes white every time I try to change it it won’t let me edit it. I did vi and then the directory or do I need to put something beside vi before I try to edit it I typed “vi /opt/piratebox/conf/hostapd.conf” and it brought me to the text editor but would let me edit the text.

tl;dr:
to edit you have to press "i"
exit edit mode with "ESC"
write changes to file and close vi with ":x"
