Noob In Need Of Piratebox Board Assistance
January 30, 2016 03:39PM
Hello there PirateBox smiling smiley

So I recently found the piratebox project and was instantly intrigued with it. I immediately set to work collecting the things I'd need to build one.

I got it up and running a few days ago and it's been working great! I started an initial trial of the box and everything was working. The chat, file directory, and the image board. But when I got up the next morning, the board wouldn't work.

I could still chat and upload but when I tried to access the board all I got was a blank white screen. I ssh'ed into the box and tried running the board startup command again to no avail. I've been working on the problem for a couple of days and I can't figure it out.

I'm running the piratebox on an MR3040 and a San Disk 16BG Flash.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Navigate to your image board directory in ssh and run the command 'ls -al' without the quotes. Post what it says. Be sure to use the "code -> HTML strict" tag here on the forums to keep the formatting correct.

As for the first part of your message, here is what was printed when I navigated to /opt/piratebox/fourmspace and typed ls -al:

drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 1024 Jan 27 16:06 .
drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 1024 Jan 27 16:06 ..

As for the second part of your response, I'm sort of confused.What do you mean by "code -> HTLM strict"?

I'm not the support expert on the MR3040, but it looks to me that ALL of the board files are missing. Nothing is there. Possibly the wrong directory? I know on the Raspberry Pi, the board is /opt/piratebox/share/board. Look in there. If you have created symlinks, be sure those point to the correct device & location.

Your directory listing of the board should look like this or very similar:
Language: HTML
[alarm@alarmpi ~]$ ls -al /opt/piratebox/share/board/ total 216 drwxrwxr-x 11 nobody nogroup 4096 Jan 27 00:03 . drwxrwxr-x 7 nobody nogroup 4096 Jan 27 16:23 .. -rwxrwxr-x 1 nobody nogroup 12758 Apr 16 2009 admin.pl -rwxrwxr-x 1 nobody nogroup 7834 May 16 2006 captcha.pl -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 12508 Jan 27 00:00 config.pl -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 8037 Jan 26 17:38 config_defaults.pl drwxrwxr-x 2 nobody nogroup 4096 Jan 26 17:38 css -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 575 May 16 2006 example.htaccess drwxrwxr-x 4 nobody nogroup 4096 Jan 26 17:38 extras drwxrwxr-x 2 nobody nogroup 4096 Feb 23 2005 icons drwxrwxr-x 2 nobody nogroup 4096 Jan 26 17:38 include -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 4725 Jan 27 00:03 index.html -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 0 Jan 26 17:38 init_done -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 894 Sep 14 2004 kareha.ico -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 6150 May 16 2006 kareha.js -rwxrwxr-x 1 nobody nogroup 32042 Jan 28 2007 kareha.pl -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 75 Jan 26 23:30 log.txt drwxrwxr-x 6 nobody nogroup 4096 Jul 7 2006 mode_image drwxrwxr-x 5 nobody nogroup 4096 Jul 7 2006 mode_message drwxrwxr-x 2 nobody nogroup 4096 Jan 27 00:03 res -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 5696 Apr 16 2009 spam.txt drwxrwxr-x 2 nobody nogroup 4096 Feb 26 2005 src -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 17037 Jan 26 23:27 templates.pl drwxrwxr-x 2 nobody nogroup 4096 Feb 26 2005 thumb -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 32069 Apr 16 2009 wakautils.pl -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogroup 1912 Jan 26 17:38 zeroconv.pl [alarm@alarmpi ~]$

My guess, is there was a power failure or something didn't remount correctly.

can you post the output of the following commands please?
cat /opt/piratebox/tmp/break.log
cat /opt/piratebox/tmp/error.log
Re: Noob In Need Of Piratebox Board Assistance

I tried both commands. cat /opt/piratebox/tmp/break.log returned nothing. The second command produced this:

1970-01-01 00:00:51: (log.c.166) server started
1970-01-01 00:00:51: (server.c.968) WARNING: unknown config-key: url.access-deny (ignored)

then try to delete the index.html of the board, and rerun the kareha.pl (clicking inside the later shown directory listing).
Run the following on you box
rm /opt/piratebox/share/board/index.html

Then open the browser, click on the board link- then kareha.pl .. after that the Index should be regenerated. If not, *directly* connect via telnet and check the both logfiles again.

I have exactly the same problem, so I tried this but at the very last step I got:

No ADMIN_PASS defined in the configuration at config_defaults.pl line 8.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at config_defaults.pl line 133.
Compilation failed in require at /opt/piratebox/www/board/kareha.pl line 13.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /opt/piratebox/www/board/kareha.pl line 13.

I'm quite a n00b myself, so no idea how to fix this. Can you help?

ps. I have OpenWRT and Piratebox installed on a TP-Link MR3020.
When I SSH into it and ls I get nothing back where I used to see the directories. The page in browser still works though and when I follow the path you provided /opt/piratebox/share/board I get everything I used to have directly after SSH.

did you run the script to setup the board password?
Hi,

i'm trying to install a Piratebox but I have a problem during the script.

here is the code from the consol :

----------------------------------------------------
* Starting script piratebox
Generating hosts file ....
Generating dnsmasq.conf .....
Generating Environment-config for lighttpd .....
Empty tmp folder
rm: cannot remove ‘/opt/piratebox/tmp/’: Is a directory

Setting up wlan0
* Starting dnsmasq... [ OK ]
* Starting droopy... [ OK ]

CRITICAL: /opt/piratebox/share/Shared modified 1 minutes ago. Threshold set to 5 minutes. Cannot update.
Generated HTML-DiskUsage File.
* Starting lighttpd... [ OK ]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the error file from "tmp" i have this :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2016-08-16 17:36:47: (log.c.164) server started
2016-08-16 17:36:47: (server.c.1045) WARNING: unknown config-key: url.access-deny (ignored)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could someone help me please ?
