MTK 7628NN Chipset (MR3020 and MT300n-V2)
April 19, 2018 07:31PM
Hey everyone. I recently purchased a Gli.net MT300n-V2. This portable router has the MTK 7628NN Chipset, unlike the first version, which had the MTK 7620N Chipset. I was on the internet and I was able to find firmware for the MT300n-V1, however not the MT300n-V2.

I found out that the newer MR3020 v3.0 also uses this never MTK 7628NN Chipset. I also know that supposedly the newer MR3020 doesn't support Piratebox. Is it because of the Chipset? If it is, then I assume that I will be unable to build an image for my MT300N-V2.

Any thoughts?

Sincerely, Rys.

No stable support for newer MR3020 and that particular glinet.
On the stable release we can only support AR71xx chipsets for OpenWrt.

On the development branch, we already adjusted the toolchain to support more then one architecture/chipset type, but there is still some way to go.

best regards Matthias

Hi Mathias,
This is good to know. I did just want to comment further on this and clarify before I potentially brick a few boxes (or even 1 of them).

My boss bought a TL-MR3020(UN) v1.9 and it worked perfectly with the PB firmware.

However, he has recently bought 3 more, this time they are the TL-MR3020(EU) v3.0 model.
Based on what I have been reading, would it be safe to assume that these different region numbers (UN and EU) will have little or no impact on the version of the PB or WRT firmware loaded, because it's the version of the model number that is really the key thing here, because it contains a different chipset?
Thus, since the new ones are v3.0, I'm completely out of luck, until such time it's officially supported - whenever that may be?
Many thanks,
Steve

PS. Rys, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. grinning smiley

AFAIK:

You can be pretty sure, that 3.0 isn't supported anymore.. even better, they do not accept our firmware anymore.
