Known hardware - firmware combinations
October 28, 2013 10:43PM
Hi,
I created the following table, which came on my mind today at work:

Firmware recommendations

Please give me feedback, if something is missing, wrong. Anyone who has a wiki account is able to adjust that stuff.

Seems very useful.

But still too hard to understand for me.

For the TP-Link MR3040 v2+ I suggest the firmware located here. The others seem to have various gotcha's, but that firmware worked the first time flawlessly.

Hi,
the firmware from the beta location is the same like in stable right now.

Matthias
I now have 4 images for the mr-3040 v2 w/ different md5sums collected from various places while reading different forum threads and websites

c774971f5035c020380e871cc0a41292 openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory_b2.bin
119b05cffb4747781a542914f2a69d3f openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory_b3.bin
e562801506b8c083ff3cf32f6cfbb350 openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory_b4.bin
e219bc7a474e3de74809e0b8278eb644 openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory.bin

can anyone (Matthias???) say which is successfull or best to use? I have a V2.2 unit. I'd like to avoid problems which have been resolved and find out in advance about any issues that are known, but not resolved.

Thanks,
Reg

Hi,
for the auto-install I suggest the one you find here:http://stable.openwrt.piratebox.de/auto/

 tmp]$ md5sum openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory.bin
f9b3fb9dd31943d41175977cc35eb6bf openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory.bin

Hi all,

New to forum. This project is fascinating! I have auto installed my TL-MR3020, no problem.

And

I had an old WZR-HP-G300NH lying around and can figure out how to upgrade to latest release. I tried the debian scripts but got tons of errors. I can run openwrt***all.ipk no problem and it works great but is feature lacking compared to TL-MR3020.

Can someone please shed some light?

Cheers!

Hi Matthias,

Can please provide me with a how to for adding minidlna to work with your 1.0 release?

I found the sample config and also tried to instal and run it but it doesn't seem to work.

You need to run

/etc/init.d/piratebox nodns
opkg update
opkg -d ext install extendRoot-minidlna

Then you should bring the config in place, like you already did.

Good man! Thank you very much smiling smiley

All I had to do was follow your post above and then from your previous tutorial just:

cd /tmp
wget [downloads.piratebox.de]
cp openwrt.example.minidlna /mnt/ext/etc/config/minidlna

/etc/init.d/minidlna start

Matthias, maybe I'm not understanding the table, or maybe something's changed in the build since the list was originally compiled, but my TP-Link TL-MR3040 v2 is running "Custom image trunk" and "Trunk" OpenWrt right now. Unless I don't get what you mean by those column headings, or the "X" or something...
Re: Known hardware - firmware combinations

Hey Mcfate,
Development and stable images are currently "Custom image stable". In terms of the development build, this list is missleading yes.

Hardware && Version => Your box.

Custom image stable => BackPort AA Customized image supports this device? (see About our custom images )
Custom image trunk => Customized trunk images (more see below)
OpenWRT release => Since which version of OpenWRT the device is supported.

Quote

Currently, the trunk images are not supported by the PirateBox framework. Find out the reason why.
That is the reason, why the trunk images are all Xed.

When I review the table in this moment, I recognize that it would need some update, because alot of the "OpenWrt-Release = trunk" markers should now be "Breaking Barrier 14.07".
And we should add some more notes about WRTNode, Yun and so on...

Does this help a bit or is it more confusing now? confused smiley

Just wanted to say I just bought a V2 of TP-Link TL-WR842ND and it does work with LibraryBox 2.1

Thanks for the feedback, I adjusted the page
The hardware page says that PirateBox doesn't work on the TP-Link TL-WR703N v1.7. That's not exactly true. I recently purchased one of these with the latest firmware available. While you can't flash via the firmware upgrade interface in the stock firmware, you can flash via serial console. I've documented the whole process in my blog and am the proud owner of a TL-WR703N v1.7 running PirateBox!

Additionally, any TL-WR703N v1.7 that has already been flashed with OpenWrt can also be changed over to a PirateBox by simply installing the PirateBox firmware via the OpenWrt firmware upgrade page.
