I'm planning to present a Pirate box demo & discussion at Barcamp Fond du Lac in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin (USA) later today (Saturday Sept. 20th, 2014). I don't know the specific time, but more information about the event can be found here: ...and I'll be tweeting about the event at @jasonbot2000.by jjg - PirateBox News and Events
I didn't use the "-d ext" flags when installing it, so I guess that means it got installed directly on the device (still learning how OpenWRT does things . Load & memory usage is negligible at idle, but I haven't done enough testing while in-use to say much about that yet. I'm hoping to do a more extended test tomorrow and take better measurements. Did some brief testing today and audio quality is completely usable between two iOS clients and an MR3040 Piratebox. Next tests will be with the WR702N repeaters to see if I can setup a neighborhood telephone system - Jasonby jjg - Mods and Themes
Got a chance to take a whack at this tonight and it seems to be working! Need to do more testing to figure out if it's useful, but I was able to get a wicked feedback loop going between two iOS devices Here's my first draft of a writeup on getting this going with Piratebox OpenWRT: Download OpenWRT packages: libprotobuf-c libpolarssl libconfig umurmur-polarssl Uplby jjg - Mods and Themes
Just a quick update, setting up the 702N in "repeater mode" using the stock firmware was a piece of cake. Casual testing shows about double the range of the MR3040 alone (in the direction of the repeater of course . I'm going to setup the second one and see if I can get another "hop" down the road and take some more precise measurements.by jjg - PirateBox OpenWrt
Has anyone tried getting a Mumble ( ) server running on a piratebox? There is an OpenWRT server called uMurmur but I was curious as to if anyone has tried to run it? If it works it could be a really cool addition, but maybe there's a reason for it not being included already?by jjg - Mods and Themes
Thanks for the response Matthias! I plan to use the setup in the field, likely housing the devices in something weather-resistant and solar powered I'll play with the repeater mode stuff, I was wondering how it works (if it's WDS under the hood with a different name or something else). I'll let you know how it goes for future reference. Thanks for building Piratebox, oncby jjg - PirateBox OpenWrt
I bought a pair of TP-LINK TL-WR702N AP's awhile back expecting to run Piratebox on them but later realized I got the wrong model (not enough RAM or something). Anyway, I have an MR3040-based Piratebox now, but I'm wondering if I can extend its coverage using the WR702N's? I'm pretty sure they have to keep the stock firmware (I don't think they can run OpenWrt) but I&by jjg - PirateBox OpenWrt
Thanks again Ubuntulover, that did the trick!by jjg - PirateBox OpenWrt
Thanks for the tip Ubuntulover, I waited awhile and then power cycled it, then waited some more, and it seems to be operational now. The forum returns an index of its files instead of a web page, but I'll look into that separately. Thanks! - Jasonby jjg - PirateBox OpenWrt
Hey all, Setting up an MR3040 and seems like things were going OK so telnet'd in and set a root password. I must have jumped the gun because when I went to switch over to the Piratebox SSID for post-install steps, it wasn't there I waited awhile and it did show up, but when I try to attach to that WiFi network, I get "DHCP Lookup Failed" from my Chromebook, and my iOSby jjg - PirateBox OpenWrt
