Connect to your home server and download the movie to your phone. Then disconnect and instead connect to the PirateBox and upload the movie. Or simply turn the PB off and remove the USB stick and copy the movie to the right folder on the stick.by NoPiracyHere - PirateBox (General)
As far as I know, a PB is not encrypted at all. The idea is that it should be easy to connect to, without having to negotioate any keys at all. And the PB is not connected to the Internet at all. Just avialable locally in a crowd or gathering over wifi, without hardly any security at all! I am not sure if there is a need for any encryption, what it would be used for? However, if the PB evolby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox (General)
Try to find some site that you trust that have recent reviews of USB powerbanks, and pick a powerbank that have good reviews. Then figure out where to buy it. Otherwise you will have better than 50% chance of buying expensive junk... You might consider just getting the MR3040 instead. And try using it with the built in battery. That might be sufficient for you? You'll get at least 2by NoPiracyHere - PirateBox (General)
You should get a few hours from the built in battery, without any external power source. Using a good external powerbank you get perhaps a day. A simple USB charger is the cheapest, and you get unlimited runtimes... Make sure not to buy a powerbank that hasn't been independently tested by someone you trust. Especially regarding capacity. Don't believe the manufacturer! Many powerbby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox (General)
A PB is pretty techie stuff. It helps a lot if you know about networking, wifi, web, USB, computers and linux. Otherwise you may find that anything except using the default settings is too difficult to figure out. So what you can and cannot do really depends on you, and what you are willing to learn. Not the PB as such. The PB can be modified to do what you want, if you have the right skills. Howby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox (General)

Where is the open source software repository for the iVi? It would be very interesting to see what you have running on the prototypes! Please provide a link. Perhaps there are some that want to help develop it? Or perhaps the PirateBox project could benefit from the mesh-code in the iVi? Also it would make it more convincing that the iVi really is an actual project and not just a hoax/scam/fraby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox (General)
I think any USB connected hd would do. The major problem is power. The drive should have separate power so it doesn't have to run from the power supply of the PirateBox. That is most likely not enough for a mechanical hd. However I can successfully run my TL-MR3040 with a SSD hd on internal power. I wouldn't expect it to work with a mechanical hd. Another problem with a big mechanicaby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox OpenWrt
I only have the 3040 with the internal battery. But as I understand it they are functionally identical except for the power source. If you really need the mobility, then the 3040 is a given. But for most stationary applications you have to attach an external power source anyway. Then you might as well go with the 3020. Also if you intend to add an external antenna, then I assume that the 3020 isby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox OpenWrt
The functionality needed does not seem to be something really unique to piratebox. So as I see it the best way would be to figure out a way to update OpenWRT to have this functionality. That way there is no need for a "hack", since the "hack" becomes a part of OpenWRT. Simply have OpenWRT use /usr/local/etc, /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/lib by default. Add to path and librby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox (Development)
You don't need any DNS or a gateway because you are operating on a local network without any routing and with plain IP numbers and no name or domain lookup. Just set a static IP on the pc to the same network as the PB. For instance just add 1 to the IP of the PB. After that, attempt to telnet in and reflash as per instructions in the howto.by NoPiracyHere - PirateBox OpenWrt
How you change IP on the PC depends on the OS. Try to google something like: static ip configuration windowsby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox OpenWrt
That tutorial is outdated and irrelevant. It is from 2012! Ancient! Use the tutorial you find here, much simpler! Almost automatic! And you get a current and updated PirateBox. There you also find some information about upgrading from a very old PirateBox. You may need that to upgrade. And yes, you need to be on the same IP network as the PB to be able to connect to it. You can use any powersource that outputs 5 volts smooth DC if your PB run off 5V, for instance USB. That means any decent powerpack that outputs 5 volts. However there may be some powerpacks that have problems with charging at the same time as they supply 5 volts. I would not assume that would be a problem with the pack you linked to. However there is a lot of junk batterypacks and (especiallyby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox (General)
Judging from the published information and the behaviour of TangoTanga, and knowledge about other crowdfunded devices recently, I suspect that this is a hoax. I doubt that there ever will be any iVi available for purchase. I admit that I may be wrong. Actually I hope that I am wrong. But I will not part with any money on the basis of what I know now. I have a PB based on TL-MR3040V2.1 that is connected via USB to a SATA SSD. The SSD is in an external USB 2.0 enclosure. Works fine without external power. But I assume that battery life is reduced, so I normally use it with a powerbank. I would assume that a mechanical HD would draw too much power, so it would have to be powered separatly.by NoPiracyHere - PirateBox (General)
1. Shut down your PB. 2. Remove the USB stick and plug it into your PC. 3. Browse the folder "Piratebox/Shared" on the stick and delete or add files, as you desire. 4. Make sure not to touch anything else, unless you know what you are doing. 5. Safely unplug. 6. Plug into the PB and start it. Share and have fun! The few times I have had reason to copy a USB-stick, for instance to a SSD in an external USB enclosure, I simply used the filemanager Nautilus and copy-pasted in Unity. Worked perfectly fine. My PB was installed using a USB stick, but is now running using an old 80GB SSD. Works fine. So it seems strange that cp -r doesn't work. The warning is correct. The device you connect to has indeed changed and this might be a sign of a serious phishing attempt. An attempt to trick you to login and show your password to a third party. So there are at least two variables, the switch settings is not one of them. 1. Make sure you use the right image, freshly downloaded from stable.openwrt.piratebox.de. 2. Make sure the USB-memory is working. Test a few different. If you got it cheap from ebay, it might be a fake. Also I assume that the USB-memory should be present when the 3040 boots? Good to know that it is the same IP for both wifi and cable on OpenWRT. I suspect that your computer is using network settings it got from an earlier connection. Gateway and IP. Try to unplug the cable, reboot and connect to the pb over wifi without first connecting to any other network. And set wifi to dynamic ip from dhcp. The pb functions as a dhcp-server.by NoPiracyHere - PirateBox OpenWrt
The pb has two different interfaces. Cable and wifi. And they will have different ip. Try to disconnect from all other connections before you connect to the pb. Your computer may have more than one interface as well, and that may cause conflicts if the pb and your other network operates in the same ip subnet.by NoPiracyHere - PirateBox OpenWrt
I put my old 80 GB Intel X25 SSD in a USB case, formatted it to fat32 and copied over the files from the USB stick. And it just worked. Nice. I assume that this will improve performance somewhat, but I haven't performed any benchmarks. Also the SSD might cause some extra power to be used, so the battery may not last as long as usual, but I haven't done any tests. The TL-MR3040 worksby NoPiracyHere - PirateBox OpenWrt
I have upgraded, but was unable to follow the recommended procedure. My TL-MR3040 is version 2.1 and when I attempted a sysupgrade I just got an error message about image check failed. But reflashing the V2 firmware with the old mtd-command worked fine. So now I have a working PB 1.01 on my TL-MR3040.
