Well, considering that PB is purposefully not on the 'net I don't see how one could do the updates unless they are doing maintenance on the box regularly. In that case, they could delete the potential bad files. Not that we shouldn't be able to update the box, just an observation. Perhaps some kind of filter could be added so that the manager of a PB could block certain filetypeby *grod - PirateBox (Development)
Hmmm... so, out of curiosity what exactly was causing these "temp" files to be uploaded?by *grod - PirateBox (Development)
Ladies and Gents: I now have two working Pirate Boxes at locations across town. I've noticed I'm getting these strange "temp" files being uploaded to the share folder. They all have names like "be7mU_0Ttmp" with no extension. After opening them with gedit, I've discovered they are files that Android is leaving on the server. Inside it are long strings that aby *grod - PirateBox (Development)
My PB was set up for lowest cost and maximum horsepower. So, it's not as pretty as some of the nice ones posted on here. I used mostly waht I had lying around plus a few cheap things from the Goodwill. My setup is a 930mhz AMD Duron tower with 512mb RAM and a 140gb disk space. I installed Ubuntu with no gui on the box and installed PB there. It's wired directly into my hacked Linksyby *grod - PirateBox (General)
So, I installed the box. It's on the 3rd floor of a space I rent on the campus of a major university in downtown. With the Linksys ramped up to 175mw, I get over 300m (1000ft) range before the signal gets too weak for my laptop to connect to. I can see the network for at least 450m, but it's not usable to my gear. After a mere 24 hours in the wild, I already have uploads! ...all pby *grod - PirateBox (General)
I got it!!!! OK, the trick is to leave dnsmasq enabled but to add the extra command: address=/#/192.168.1.49 Then in the HTTP redirect, add the source network of 192.168.1.0 Voila! I am super pleased. Matthais, thanks for all your assistance. I have really appreciated the work you've done with this project.by *grod - PirateBox (General)
OK, I fixed the speed issue. I went ahead and edited /etc/network/interfaces and set the tower to a static IP internally. Now I have the tower and the router BOTH thinking the tower is 192.168.1.49. My speeds are back to ideal. Actually, I think they may have improved a little over the original setup. Still no redirect. This is making me more confused than I've been in a long time. I have my router set with 192.168.1.1 as it's own IP. Hotspot is enabled, directing to the tower which as a static IP of 192.168.1.49. I disabled the DNSMasq as you suggested. Wireless is turned on. I disabled it's setting to look for DHCP from an ISP but I made sure to leave the router's own DHCP server on. On Ubuntu, I am running your scripts which I modified to look for 192.1by *grod - PirateBox (General)
I forgot to add that the tower is wired into the router, it has no wifi card. All my conf files I changed to eth0.by *grod - PirateBox (General)
Where is PB installed? If it's in the router's memory, then install the photos there. If you run PB from the memory stick, the put the image there. I have mine installed in the computer, not the router. I was able to change the image successully this way.by *grod - PirateBox (General)
Firstly, let me thank you all for the work you've done on this software. I find it very useful! And with that, onto my issue. Namely, PB works flawlessly EXCEPT for the fact that connecting to the network doesn't automagically redirect. I can get to the PirateBox by typing 192.168.1.49 into the browser. I've spent about 15 hours working on this over the last couple of weeks.by *grod - PirateBox (General)
