Upload files on a piratebox with iOS device
July 03, 2012 06:41AM
Hi,

Sorry for my english.

I'm a french teacher (biology and geology) and i am interested in using pirate box with my little students when we go to the field, to catch animals or rocks, to study volcanism etc... It will be very interesting if they can exchange stuff they have collected in the field (photos, data, vidéos....). Pirate box seems to be a perfect way to do that : in the bus when we go home for exemple.

But, my students are equiped with ipad....
Is there any possibilities to upload files to a pirate box from an IPAD ?

In my college we use a webdav app so that they can upload files on the college server. I don't know if it's a way we can use on a pirate box.

Thanks for helping me,

Mirmo

Hi,
you need to "modify" you box-setup.

I'm answering now in a technical way winking smiley :
* install the package lighttpd-mod-webdav to "-d piratebox"
* set up your /opt/piratebox/conf/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf taking regard the following howtos [www.howtoforge.de] & [blog.marxy.org]

It may work, but I can't promise it.

kind regards
Matthias

I have an old iPod (touch 3g, hated the thing) that I did end up being able to get it to work. I had to have it jailbroken and was using iFile. But, as far as I understand it you shouldn't have access to upload files from an iOS device unless it is jailbroken. It may be possible to use an app that stores files (I don't know of any that aren't for Jailbroken devices) to do it, but that would be overly complicated.

Hi,

If any developer read this, perhaps this module [redmine.lighttpd.net] should be a way to help ios device to upload files on pirate boxes ?

I had some luck with the iCab Browser app for iOS. I don't have an iOS device anymore so I cannot double check this for you but it is worth a try.

Good luck.

I'll add WebDAV to my "todo-List" .. I can may add it.

BUT: keep in mind: PirateBox should offer a very simple way for uploading data.. webdav doesn't seem to be one.
