Stress Testing your PirateBox

Hello,

Has anyone ever tried stress testing their PirateBox? I'm wondering what people have had for max connections for uploading and downloading before the PirateBox becomes overloaded. Last night I did some stress testing on my TL-MR3020 which has a 1TB HD hooked up to it and I had 8 of my neighbors upload the same 230MB video at the same time. This caused my PirateBox to become unresponsive and not communicate on the network. I had to reboot in order to resolve this of course. I just want to see if other people have tried any sort of stress testing for any PirateBox using any OpenWRT router. I know that 8 people can be quite a few for uploading at the same time but if I'm in a dense populated area I'm afraid that this could occur naturally. I'm going to do some additional stress testing tonight to see what the MAX download/upload is until my PirateBox ends up crashing. I'm wondering if a better router will handle higher download and upload connections. If there hasn't ever been any known or documented stress testing then I'll add my results here on the forum board when I finish up my testing. Thanks in advance for any responses!!!

haven't tested it with such a load, but the box does not handle much load well.
The box is still reachable, but it takes more time then it takes usually (or the timeout is much shorter).

In case of smaller files, it works alot better.
You have to think about that tiny chip, which has to handle all these requests and put the files through the even smaller usb-chipset, which was made to handle USB-3G dongles ... winking smiley

So, that be so hard to your tiny box. I didn't recognized that much load on the system EVER.

I plan on doing some stress testing soon also but not much bandwidth, more simulataneous connections. I'm building a box for an outdoor music festival that plans on serving info pdfs and run a forum.

I'll also post my results.

By the way, I mentioned it a few weeks ago in IRC:

USB-Stick / USB Drive Performance is crucial

Slow usb sticks are making a very bad overall-performance. Some other IRC Members acknowledge this, too.
