Instead of a public piratebox, I wanted to make a private offline filesharing box, and so I would like to control, who can access it, and I am am IT student, and just wanted to try this out

You can setup a wifi password. is that enough?
Another way is to add mac address filtering to hostapd ..
but all of this is not following the Piratebox principle of free shareing
