SuriRaven, Great info, I will incorporate the capacitors into my design and document Ver 2.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
looking forward to your documentation.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
SuriRaven. Thanks for you for your input. I am sure you will agree that there is more than one way to do things. My approach works very well for me. And others. I am far from an Electronics genius, nor was that claim ever made. I would be more than happy to collaborate with you on a more efficient design if you'd like. Regards, Pabell.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
CuriousC Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So you can modify the microusb cable if you don't > have a warranty or don't care about it? Yes you can, the End result will be the same. Obviously wiring would also be slightly different.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
CuriousC Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why modify a USB extension cable and not the > microusb cable itself? CuriousC, I did it this way so that if you needed to return the unit to the store you can. Moding the microusb cable voids the warrantee.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
Anthony, I am glad you found the guide helpful Shoot a message over to Matthias he will be able to answer the "technical" aspects.by pabell - PirateBox OpenWrt
That would be cool if you could pull it off, PS: I'm back.by pabell - PirateBox (Development)

Mofosyne, If you use the power cable that I have in the instructions with a usb cable, you will get the right voltage for your particular device.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
Mofosyne, This is from the open-wrt website: http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr703n#power.consumption Power consumption This router is standardly powered via USB at 5V. The voltage regulator inside is unknown, but its input voltage should be at least between 3.7V - 5.5V, but not over 5.5V. The device will get damaged at too high voltages. Maximum current draw at 5V is 185mA (OpenWby pabell - PirateBox (General)
drhitchcock, Wow! Now that is a Piratebox! Does the piratebox fit horizontal or vertical in the flashlight/torch?by pabell - PirateBox (General)
Hi, I have a Pogoplug Pro (Black), I have looked into doing the same with no success. You may want to check the openwrt forums for clues to installing on pogoplug. Regards,by pabell - PirateBox (General)

7805A - Max input 35V - This is what I used for this tutuorial. 7805C - Max input 10V - I ordered 20 of these from Newark.com these would be great for running a Pirateboxes with single 9V batteries.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
Distribution, For this tutorial, I purchased regulators from Radioshack. the max input voltage is 32 Volts 10 AA batteries would be 15 Volts well within the threshold of the regulator. Keep in mind though that not all +5 regulators are the same. I have some which have a max input voltage of 10 Volts so I run those using a 9v battery. When I get home I will update this with the 2 different 5vby pabell - PirateBox (General)
Matthias, For security, See my post above is it possible to use MAC address(which never changes) as an authentication method. I don't think the PB should ever connect to the Internet for time.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
@Drhitchcock, I had that happen to me. the best option is to format the Thumb Drive if t hat doesn't work replace it.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
Matthias, I have been playing around with the new version. but I don't see any obvious differences from the older version. I played around with piratebox.config file (or whatever its called). Where can user really sink their teeth into this thing and change stuff around. You mention cool features above but where can they be found?by pabell - PirateBox (Development)
what no one uses skype any moreby pabell - PirateBox (Development)
Matthias, Scenario 1 Would it be possible to write a script that when the MR3020 is connected to your router it could grab the correct time from you NTP server? Scenario 2 When initially setting up the piratebox, you could take the mac address from the configuring computer and save it to a file. when and if you lost power to the piratebox. the user would simply connect to the piratebox ssby pabell - PirateBox (General)
Oliverhart, from this post you may be able to get some ideas of what type of power sources people are using.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
My experience with those batteries and similar is once they loose slight voltage i.e. start to die, they may not put out enough juice to power the MR3020. I am powering my devices with 8AA batteies with a +5v Regulator.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
@ghost_in_black Here is my How-to for windows users hopefully you find it more helpful in setting up the configuration file.by pabell - PirateBox OpenWrt
PM because I want to write a user manual for this version using elements from your posts. I'm still new with this version so ill require some time to play around with it.by pabell - PirateBox (Development)
I will upgrade tonight. I'm excited to see what goodies are in this new version.by pabell - PirateBox (General)
