So I have been playing with Piratebox off and on, but have yet to finally build something I can just setup and have running someplace off of battery power or what have you. I was curious where some of you guys and gals are setting yours up. Are you leaving them for extended periods of time? Success of getting any responses or usage? Also, with the fear of terrorists plots around every corner,by mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
If anyone wants to use it go ahead. Can you post your version when you finish it?by mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
I wanted to customize the logo on my PB so I fired up Photoshop and threw together this. I figured I would post it here incase anyone else would like to use it.by mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
Hi, I'm relativly new here too. I have been doing a little "stress testing" for my box, and I get a signal about 40 - 50 feet away from where I had it setup. But YMMV based on a bunch of factors. The wifi adapter you are using, and the output power from it. Also where the PB would be loctaed, anything around it that could attenuate the signal, as well as the case it's in cby mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
Yes, I wrote up a post that directs people to the wiki and the Raspberrypi.org forum post on how to get it to work correctly. My thread on this forum for the fix.by mobbyg - PirateBox (General)

Here is my iPiratebox...by mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
Got it.. I may have missed it, or restarted something wrong, but whatever, it's working now. I reinstalled everything using Matthias' wiki for installing on Ubuntu. Tried it, DNSMasq was still failing when I ran the pb script to start it up. Then I checked ps and I saw that DNSMasq was running everytime I tried to start PB. So I stopped PB, said it couldn't stop it, so I wentby mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
After getting mine today, I discovered that to get the Edimax EW-7811cus to work with PB on Raspberry Pi, there are a few things you need to do to get hostapd to work with it. The info wasn't readily available with a Google search, so I figured posting here was a good way to let folks know and maybe get some wikis and webpages updated. The adapter uses the Realtek RTL8188CUS, so you willby mobbyg - Raspberry Pi(rate)Box
OK, I went into /etc/network/interface and all that was listed there was: auto lo iface lo inet loopback Not sure where I would go. Most of what I am finding is for bridging 2 NICs. Any tutorials that I could use?by mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
Well I am a little stumped now. When I run the startup for piratebox in /etc/init.d/, dnsmasq still fails to start. I'm guessing because port 53 is still in use. I'm guessing Bind is running on my Ubuntu box, but when I do a ps -aux | grep bind, I just see something about DNSMasq: 8246 ? S 0:08 /usr/sbin/dnsmasq --no-resolv --keep-in-foreground --no-hosts --bind-interfaceby mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
Sharing this from my thread regarding the same question. Found this guide.. Still requires a little googleing to look up on how to do things.. http://www.reddit.com/r/Piratebox/comments/yat95/a_piratebox_i_made_for_people_who_dont_want_to/by mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
Just found this on /r/Piratebox over at Reddit... Seems to be what I am looking for. Reddit.comby mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
OK, I'll read up about the config file and try it out. As for the BBS software, I'm using Mystic BBS. The software is here: You can telnet in at rfgeeks.no-ip.org - port 23 is open..by mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
This kind of sounds like what I was looking to do in my thread that I started. Have the Piratebox it's own service on just wifi, and have the rest of my Ubuntu box accessable via the ethernet port for regualr routing to allow access to my Minecraft server and BBS.by mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
QuoteMatthias Do you need a running dnsmasq service on the device? Well, I'm going by your wiki on setting it up on a Raspberry Pi as my template. I installed the source files for Piratebox, started them with sudo /etc/init.d/piratebox start and it all runs except for dnsmasq as port 53 is already being used. This is where I am not sure about dnsmasq. I'm guessing it's what isby mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
Hey all... I just built my first Raspberry Piratebox, and it seems to be going pretty good. The plan was to use that on the go or have it setup someplace as I am out and about. But, I wanted to have a seperate one setup at home for the rest of the complex I live in to use. There are literally 30 WiFi signals around me and I'm betting some folks may like this project. So I downloaby mobbyg - PirateBox (General)
