Hi, I'm using some MR3020 PBs regularly. I also set up and distributed some 50 PBs to students and teachers all over Italy. Wondering if it could be safer to shutdown the box via ssh and the halt command, instead of simply switching the power off. Especially when, for instance, in a conference, a lot of people are still connected but I have to take my box away: could it be a danger ofby iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt
Yes, you are right. I checked all the pens used so far: it's wise to check for the sanity of the file system in the USB sticks. In case of problems, first repartion, format, than one can copy contents with cp -r Thanks!by iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt
When distributing PirateBoxes, I often find convenient to duplicate the USB sticks, in order to provide people a "spare wheel". My way to this is by means of the dd command, such as... dd if=/dev/sdc1 of=/dev/sdb1 ... provided that the two USB sticks have the same size. Is there a cleverer way to do this? (cp -r ... does not work: the box boots but not all the componentsby iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt
Hello, needing to build some more Raspberry-based PirateBoxes, I wonder if someone used TL-WN721N or TL-WN723N instead of TL-WN722N? (It would be easier for me to get those adapters.) Thanks Andreasby iamarf - Raspberry Pi(rate)Box
Ok, all of a sudden I remembered to have an usb stick with me, where I copied the content of the other one. With this "backup usb-stick" it works regularly! So, the problem was not due to my mods but to some defects on the usb stick...? Must check. The mods were about leaving a copy of the chat on the usb stick. This worked fine until this problem. But may be I will open another threby iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt
Oh... in the "second way" I often use the PirateBox it still works! I mean: if you connect via Ethernet to your local network it acts as a wifi point, letting you to reach the Internet via wireless, but not the contents of the PirateBox. Well in this way it works, thus, it is not thoroughly upset...by iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt

This was clear to me, but what changed the IP? Perhaps a behaviour of the network manager? (I'm on Debian 7.6). Any way, eager to look into the box, I tried with another machine. Ok with the failsafe, but the situation appears quite bad. I'm afraid the last resource is to reflash the factory firmware and then start everything again... root@(none):/# mount_root /sbin/mount_rootby iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt
Hello, working on my PirateBox - will tell about it in detail if necessary - suddenly was no more able to connect: the box boots the wireless signal is there but it does not connect 192.168.1.1 is unreachable Thus no ssh. Thus trying failsafe. The procedure works but after some 30 seconds since the "telnet 192.168.1.1" command, the connection was lost, and I found that thby iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt

Hello, I'm getting used to the Raspberry Pi(rate)Box (Raspberry B Rev. 2.0 or 2.1) So as it is, it's everything ok. Then I tried to use an USB flash drive. After having browsed this forum, I made the following changes. In /opt/piratebox/share: mv /opt/piratebox/share/Shared /opt/piratebox/share/Shared_old ln -s /mnt/usb /opt/piratebox/share/Shared The USB is mountedby iamarf - Raspberry Pi(rate)Box

On next 25 October we are going to contribute at the Linux Day in Florence: "PirateBox: your Internet that comes with you". Last June we started an initiative to let teachers experiment with the PirateBox in their classes: 37 MR3020 boxes have been prepared and sent all over in Italy so far, and 3 teachers were able to setup the boxes by themselves. We prepare the boxes and teach pby iamarf - PirateBox News and Events
No, I didn't run /etc/init.d/ext init. Actually, the connection makes no sense. Lesson learned so far: enthusiastic, I was doing things too fast => one has to act as an administrator even if the box is small! Double think, double check, save before changing... Solution found: by checking md5 hash of install_piratebox.zip and of the openwrt image I discovered that those two files were incoherent. Actually, recently I downloaded install_piratebox.zip but *not at the same time* openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3020-v1-squashfs-factory.bin ... Hoping to be clear enough, despite my floundering english... I installed and runned succesfully my first PirateBox some weeks ago. Now I wanted to make new boxes. I got some new MR3020, discovering they are a polish version! Any way I did not believe this was an issue and proceeded with the installation of PirateBox, finding myself in this situation: telnet 192.168.1.1 - > OK changby iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt
Hello, I need to flash some 30 router to distribute PirateBoxes to a group of teachers. Wondering if someone has already experienced the Mass Flashing of TP-Link TL-MR3020 routers described in the OpenWrt site. I searched the web as well as the forum but but I got no useful info. Thanks!by iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt
Forgot to declare solved the issue. Sorry. Even if the solution was simple - it is really easy to save your stuff, then perform the upgrading procedure - still would like to understand how could have happened that, playing with the location of the Upload directory, it turned out to have the /mnt/ext/lib, /mnt/ext/usr, /mnt/ext/tmp and all the content in /mnt/ext/etc wiped? Thanks Matthias, you are doing great work... Using PB a lot for a month: really smart (involving teachers in italy: here and here). Yesterday wanted to add some mods: [*] RESET_CHAT="no" -> ok [*] UPLOADFOLDER="$SHARE_FOLDER/Upload" -> troubles began At first I made it wrong by creating the Upload directory in the wrong place, but then I put it in /mnt/usb/PirateBox, but the problem remained: the wireless nby iamarf - PirateBox OpenWrt
